  • About
Ramadan is the ninth and holiest month of the Muslim calendar, during which the Holy Quran is said to have been revealed. For thirty (sometimes twenty-nine) days, able and observant adults abstain from food, drink, worldly pleasures, and (ideally) any kind of immoral behavior or speech from dawn until dusk.
It is a month of re-centering and calibration, of freeing the body from the weight of the material to focus on the spiritual. It is also a time to feed the soul. The pious spend many hours into the night and early morning in prayer, devotion, and supplication. Those who are less devout still take advantage of the special character of the month to reflect and to spend more time with family and friends.
