  • About
Black Forest cakes are a quintessential German dessert. They are stacked chocolate cakes, with either two or three layers, and fillings of cherries and whipped cream. For the finishing touch, the tortes are decorated with piped whipped cream rosettes, maraschino cherries, and chocolate shavings. This recipe includes two layers of cake, plus a Mürbeteig crust (shortcrust) as the base. This Mürbeteig crust takes some additional time, but it is also more authentic, and it gives the torte extra flavor and a crunchy texture.
