Making your own Fresh Cheese (Fromage Frais or Fromage Blanc)

  • About

Fromage frais, sometimes called fromage blanc, is a light cheese similar to yogurt but with more texture and little tang. It has a depth of flavor that yogurt lacks. Fromage frais is a universal snack or breakfast food in France, but oddly it is only rarely encountered in the United States. It can be served in much the same way as yogurt, with fresh fruit or fruit preserves, or as a savory side dish, first course, or snack, flavored with fresh herbs. Fromage frais can occasionally be found in fancy gourmet stores, but it’s easy to make at home.
