It’s probably the biggest dang barbecue event in America, or in the world for that matter. A competition that spans 45 acres, involves more than 350 teams (some containing as many as 50 members), consumes more than 100,000 pounds of BBQ’d meat, and which last year attracted more than 170,000 people during its three-day life span.
They call it the World’s Championship Bar-B-Que Contest, even though the teams are all from the US, and in fact are almost 100% from the host state itself. Other contests with “International” or “World” in their names actually invite participants from foreign countries. Here the world includes ... Texas.
