Both the U.S. and Canadian governments issue comprehensive, no-nonsense guidelines for eating a healthful diet. These guidelines translate the latest science and nutrition research into clearly written dietary recommendations for preventing disease. For example, Dietary Guidelines for Americans is issued every five years jointly by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and the U.S. Department of Agriculture. It is the basis for the USDA’s MyPyramid guide to promoting overall well-being and improving overall health. Likewise, Health Canada publishes Canada’s Food Guide.
