Because a standard tablespoon has a capacity of 15ml it makes more sense, although it’s not entirely accurate, to settle for the conversion of 1 fluid ounce as 30ml (in other words 2 tablespoons). Again, though, it will help if you start thinking in terms of metric units, and once manufacturers stop packaging their products in imperial units which have been translated into metric (e.g. a 284ml tub of cream) this will be easier. For the time being, if I do, for example, specify 300ml cream, you should use said 284ml container; I don’t mean for you to go out and buy another tub just for the extra 16 millilitres.
