Now we were on the farm and determined to make this our life, I saw everything differently: easier, pleasanter, less complicated.

By Jose Casimiro

IN 1993, I returned with my family to live on the farm where I was born. I had lived on that farm until I was eleven years old with my grandparents; 24 years later, though, it had been a long time since anyone lived on the farm. My grandparents stayed as long as age allowed them, and their children lived in the village. It was intensely emotional and, for me, a reunion with the boy who had left at the age of eleven to take up a scholarship at a sports school.
