  • About
Friuli-Venezia Giulia is the easternmost of all the regions of Italy, with the beautiful city of Trieste, once part of the 19th-century Austro-Hungarian Empire, as its regional capital. It borders Slovenia to the east, Austria to the north, the Adriatic Sea to the west and the Veneto to the south. It is divided into four provinces, namely Gorizia, Pordenone, Trieste and Udine.
The region cherishes its cultural complexities and diversities, brought about by its history and also by its geography. This is a region of wild landscapes and remains a mix of Italian-Slovenian-Austrian and Croatian traditions. Whether it is snow-capped mountains you seek, or sandy beaches, tranquil lagoons teeming with wild water birds, remote alpine hamlets, Roman ruins, rocky coastal cliffs, busy seaports or charming fishing villages, you will find it all here, one of Italy’s famously most versatile regions.
