I will only be able to give a brief description of Italian wines and what they are to be drunk with - it would take a whole book to mention them all and do a proper analysis. For far too long, Italian wines have suffered a mixed reputation in the international market. Although Italy was one of the first nations in the world to produce this delectable fermented grape juice and became quantitatively the biggest wine producer in the world, it was necessary not only to have good marketing to confirm the excellence of already established wines, but also to raise general levels of quality and value for money. The old name for Italy was Enotria, from the Greek word for wine, oinos: the ‘land of wine’. The spread of Italian restaurants all over the world confirmed that reputation.
