Fillings placed between three slices of bread make a club sandwich. Use white or brown bread, either plain or toasted, and there are endless varieties of fillings. Club sandwiches are bulky so you have to secure them with a wooden cocktail stick and cut them diagonally for serving. This type of sandwich makes a complete light meal.

Use thinly sliced bread and have fillings ready in advance. If you are making club sandwiches with toast work fast so that toast is still crisp and hot when served. Place the second, or middle, slice of bread buttered side up and the top slice buttered side down on the filling. Choose from among the following:
