  • This winery, with terrain in both Isonzo and Collio, has many admirers, especially outside the region, because of the more international perspective of its owner, Gianni Vescovo. This is most evident in the red blend called Braida Nuova, which recalls Bordeaux more than a wine of Friuli-Venezia Giulia. There are three different Chardonnays. The one from Collio is rather crisp and European. The Isonzo one, called I Fiori, is more herbal than tart. The Chardonnay Colie Russian will appeal more to drinkers who like California style. Vescovo produces a balanced, medium-weight Refosco dal Peduncolo Nero. The Isonzo Cabernet Sauvignon and Collio Merlot merit consideration. I would also point you to the two Pinot Grigios (one from Collio, the other from Isonzo) and a lovely Collio Pinot Bianco.
