There really is no useful guidebook in English devoted solely to Friuli-Venezia Giulia, primarily because the region is so unexplored. The standard guidebooks to Italy have a few pages on Trieste, Udine, Cividale, and perhaps Aquileia. The most complete listings I know happen to be in a book that I wrote, called Italy for the Gourmet Traveler, published in North America by Little, Brown and in Britain by Kyle Cathie. There is a whole chapter dedicated to Friuli-Venezia Giulia. Note that chef Dario Bassi in Trieste is no longer at Hostaria Bellavista but has moved to Harry’s Grill, the restaurant of the Hotel Duchi d’Aosta.
