There are other magnificent fruit-filled gnocchi from Friuli-Venezia Giulia. The most traditional filling is apricot, but many home cooks throughout the region use local fruit (and sometimes spices) to make exquisite fruit-filled gnocchi for much of the year. All of these preparations can be sauced in the traditional or alternative way, with one caveat: If there is a spice other than cinnamon enclosed in the gnocchi, then that is the spice to pair with sugar and bread crumbs outside. For stronger spices, such as ginger, be more sparing than you would be with cinnamon.
