By Aimee Budge

“My sister and I are young female farmers, which is quite unusual, but we are passionate about farming and believe we can do as good a job as anybody. We are enthusiastic about sharing our story and encouraging young people to get into farming.”

I am passionate about rearing good quality meat to high welfare standards. I love working with the land to produce feed for our livestock, ensuring our meat is reared in harmony with nature. We have 90 suckler cattle which are kept outside all year round, only taking them inside for calving. This keeps them fit and healthy, and means we can save on straw for bedding. We also have 500 Shetland Cheviot cross breeding ewes and 100 pure Shetland ewes, allowing us to breed our own replacements. In addition, we grow 60 acres of spring barley to produce feed for our livestock and sell the surplus to our farming neighbours.
