Spicy foods typically contain hot chiles, which are rich in capsaicin, a naturally occurring compound. Capsaicin can irritate the mouth, stomach, and digestive tract, and for many IBS sufferers, it can also trigger symptoms. If you like spicy foods, enjoy them in moderation or turn the heat level down a notch or two, especially if hot spices aggravate your symptoms.
