Imagine an ancient Chinese philosopher, with his depth of knowledge of how nature and food work and their impact on humans and the planet, in the kitchen with your Italian Nonna, with all her wisdom of nature, food, and nurturing. Imagine them cooking and talking together, laughing and comparing notes on food and wellness. That’s how I cook and live my life. It’s like having two little angels on my shoulders, working together, creating the soul of cooking, eating and wellness.
What I love about my food philosophy is that it takes the best of both worlds (along with nutrition facts and stats) and boils them down to their essential tenets, allowing us to enjoy the best of both philosophies. In my view, the metaphysical theories that are the foundation of macrobiotics and Chinese medicine can become too esoteric for some people, but when these same theories are grounded in the sexy, delicious cooking style known as the Mediterranean diet, it becomes a winning combination, allowing us to understand how food affects us and to cook deliciously to create the wellness we want.
