Many European regions impose minimum alcohol contents, but otherwise each region and grape variety produces wine with a different alcohol level. As a general guideline, the warmer the region, the higher the alcohol content. White wine from Germany may have an alcohol level as low as 7.5 per cent, whereas Californian Zinfandel could be as high as 16 per cent. Most table wine is between 12 and 13 per cent.
