The flavours we associate with red grapes (sometimes called black grapes) tend to be those of red and black soft fruits. We tend to associate the flavours of white grape wines with citrus or stone fruits, perhaps with hints of oak and toast. Climate plays a key role in determining the flavour of a particular wine, and you will find variations between wines produced in different countries, regions and at different times of the year. On we outline the key characteristics of the major red and white grapes to help you to identify them in a blind tasting, or identify the ones you particularly enjoy.
