  • About
Port is made by adding brandy to partially fermented red wine. It is produced from vineyards located around the River Douro in northern Portugal. Only since the 18th century has port been fortified, probably to preserve it for export. The style is much imitated, with port-style wines produced in Australia, South Africa, California and elsewhere.
