Andy Fenner has worn many hats: property developer, blogger, author, restaurant critic, restaurateur, publican and brand ambassador. But he is also a butcher – and a man who knows meat.
I pride myself on building good relationships with suppliers; it doesn’t always work out that way, however. My relationship with Andy is one that did. He takes contact and communication with a chef very seriously – so seriously that our connection has grown into a strong friendship.
I first came to know Andy through his restaurant reviews. He could cut the legs out from under a subject. The first thing he wrote about me was that I scared the shit out of him. Truth be known, he scared the shit out of me! Throughout my career I’ve been told I can be scary and intimidating but, in Andy, I felt I had met my match in the never-smiling category! (As it turns out, he’s a guy who loves a laugh and we have shared several over some decent bottles of wine.)
