Frosting the Outside of a Cake

  • About

a. After placing spoonfuls of chocolate buttercream on the top of one layer of white cake, use a large offset spatula to spread them evenly.

b. Place the second layer on top of the first. Use dabs of buttercream on the back of the spatula to cover the sides of the layers.

c. Use the same method to cover the top.

d. Use the back of the spatula to sweep once around the sides of the cake to smooth the buttercream.

e. To smooth the top, spread from the outside edge to the center.
