My nana, Heather, was born in Southland, New Zealand to Nellie Hibbs and her sawmiller husband, Bill. Nellie has to have been one of the hardest working ladies in Southland: she and Bill bought a huge piece of bush in the country and they set about clearing it with a single bulldozer and by hand. Nana told fabulous tales of camping out in the bush for the night with her brother, Keith, hunting and cooking dinner over fires. They had very little money so Nana would hunt possums, clean their skins up and sell them for a little extra cash.
