Rue D’aligre, 75012 M° Ledru-Rollin (Line 8) Open: Tuesday–Sunday, 7:30 A.M.–1:30 P.M.

There are no farmers at the Marché d’Aligre, making it a disappointing destination if you’re looking for fresh, local produce. Though the carefully curated selection of seasonal produce at Gilles Flahaut’s stand—which is mostly sourced from France and reflects his knowledge of interesting vegetable varieties—is worth checking out, the true treasures lie on the outskirts of the market. The Marché couvert Beauvau, located next door to the outdoor Aligre market, is home to specialty vendors that specialize in regional and artisanal goods. Italian cheeses, dried fish from Africa, and beers from around the world come together under the ancient wooden rafters of this former hay market. Standout booths include Sur les Quais, purveyor of organic olive oils, spices, chocolate, and other specialty ingredients. If you’re in need of a snack or an afternoon goûter stop at Jojo&co, where delicate lemon bars, cookies, and airy little cakes are freshly baked and difficult to pass up.
