Parisians love spending endless hours at cafés, but the actual coffee served in many of these cafés leaves little reason to linger. Even in some of the city’s most respected eating establishments, including an estimated 30 percent of Michelin-starred restaurants, the bang of a gastronomic meal ends with a whimper—in the form of a bitter, listless cup of coffee that came from a prepackaged pod.
Luckily, a growing group of energetic coffee advocates are providing an alternative for Parisians. Locally roasted, ethically sourced coffee is now available in coffee shops across the city—many of which are also developing workshop spaces and offering classes to consumers who want to understand how to make a truly great cup of coffee. In the span of just a few years, baristas and coffee roasters have taken on the challenge of bringing craft coffee to the city, with great success and appreciation.
