Summer sees a population shift in Paris, when locals steadily abandon ship for sunnier vacation spots while tourists flock to the city. Paris life continues at a slower, calmer pace, and this season remains one of the best times to explore side streets and settle into a sunny terrasse. The demand for fresh vegetables also remains high and local vendors and their seasonal vegetables can be found at markets until mid-July, when some of the farmers take their yearly holiday. Restaurants and wine stores begin to close for the season, so be sure to call ahead and confirm they are open—many favorite addresses will close down for their congé annuel in July and August. Paris by Mouth puts together a list every year of the annual closures of favorite restaurants, as well as which ones stay open throughout the summer.
