As we get older, our energy requirements tend to decline. This is partly due to the fact that we shrink a little with age. But our consumption of food is directly related to our energy needs and whether we are still active or have become more sedentary. Unless a radical change has occurred, such as a grave illness or an accident, our dietary needs will stay basically unchanged.
But we should be circumspect over the amount of protein that is consumed. A diet which has too much protein when we are older can be harmful in that it places strain on the kidneys. It is also suspected that excess protein may be a factor in certain diseases such as osteoporosis.
