I do add a pinch of salt to my rice because I love the stuff. I am a salt fiend.
However, it does not increase the boiling point of the water unless you are adding a shovel full. It will increase the fragrance of the rice a little and it also gives it an inevitably savoury edge. Apart from these optional benefits, it’s not necessary at all, unless you feel your arteries need toughening up a little.
