  • About
Where do grandma pizzas end and pan pizzas begin? An eternal question. You know it when you see it. I’d never consider Pizza Hut–type pan pizzas (as much as I loved them as a kid) grandma pizzas.
Growing up in Austin, Texas, there was a bakery in nearby San Antonio called Butter-Krust. The company donated textbook covers to our school, and certain classes (not mine, tragically) got a factory tour. We showed our gratitude as a student body by modifying these covers to read, “Butt Krust.” I remember this every time I recreate the buttery crust signature to Pizza Hut’s pan pizzas of the ’80s, my childhood pizza.
