Calvatia gigantea is the species you need. They are indeed gigantic. Some exceed a strapping beer belly’s dimensions. Specimens 20cm in diameter are commonplace. They grow in grass – damp meadows, parks, gardens. They are only worth eating when absolutely fresh. The flesh must be entirely white.

All that is required is that they be cut into slices about 2cm thick and fried in butter and oil till they colour.
