Beans, peas, and lentils come in dried and canned forms. Your local bulk store will have a nice selection. If you’re used to buying canned beans, I strongly suggest you try cooking them at home—it’s much cheaper and allows you to control the added salt. If you like to have a few cans on hand, as I do in the case of culinary emergencies, choose BPA-free brands.

Unless otherwise stated, most dried beans need to be soaked and then cooked. See for instructions on how to cook beans. Note that beans are often interchangeable in recipes, especially soups and stews.
