Most of the members of the cabbage, or brassica, family are raised for their leaves, which may form tight heads (cabbage), loose heads (bok choy), or which may not form heads (kale). Others are raised for their flowers (cauliflower and broccoli) or their enlarged stems (kohlrabi). Turnips and rutabagas are also brassicas, but they are grouped with root vegetables.
