  • About
Sestri di Levante, midway between Genoa and La Spezia, is a typical Levante town: vibrant, bustling, fragrant with herbs, focaccia, and the spray of the sea. There are mountains hemming bays to the north and south. A strip of land projecting from the shore is the heart of Sestri. It has the particular characteristic of being surrounded on three sides by water, with the effect that there is an omnipresent murmur of waves, the cry of sea birds, and dazzling sunrises and sunsets over water.

“Sestri di Levante is a little town pleasantly situated on the sea-side, but has not the conveniency of a harbour. The fish taken here is mostly carried to Genoa. This is likewise the market for their oil, and the paste called macaroni, of which they make a good quantity.”
