  • About
A couple of years ago I had a real shock. I’d missed a period and thought it must be the beginning of my menopause. I made an appointment with a gynaecologist to see what was going on and much to my surprise, she told me that not only was I not going through the menopause, but I still had a lot of eggs in my ovaries and was very fertile. She said I still had the fertility of someone in their early thirties. At 47, that really was a surprise.
I wanted to work out why I had such prolonged fertility. Was it genetic or due to my lifestyle? After talking with my family we worked out it was probably not genetic, which left lifestyle. I have exercised regularly and kept my weight in check since my twenties, but I believe it is more a result of my diet, which is mainly a Mediterranean one with lots of fish, fresh fruit and vegetables. Added to that, I believe it is the addition of spices and herbs that have kept me healthy and fertile.
