The antioxidant properties of sumac are some of the strongest of any ingredient and almost certainly highest of any herb or spice. This makes it exceptionally good for the maintenance of good health.
As a digestive aid, sumac is thought to improve the health of the gut in several ways and also to reduce the effects of a poor digestive system. The tannins and acids in sumac make the spice antibacterial and antifungal, which can also help with the treatment of various ailments, including yeast infections and athlete’s foot. When chewed, the sumac berries can help cleanse the mouth.
