  • About
Allspice is believed to have originated in the West Indies in the Caribbean. It is also native to parts of America.
Allspice is said to hace been used by the Mayan Indians, who are thought to have embalmed the bodies of their deceased leaders in it. The Arawak Indian tribes are also said to have used it as a food preservative and as a way of curing meat.
Allspice is a particularly fussy spice that prefers the Caribbean climate to other parts of the world; several countries including India and the famous ‘spice islands’ have been unsuccessful in their attempts to cultivate it.
