IN SRI LANKA, FRESH REGIONAL AND SEASONAL FOODS ARE ENJOYED BY ALL. ROAD TRIPS ARE POPULAR, AND AS PEOPLE TRAVEL ACROSS THE COUNTRY THEY STOP TO EAT AT TEAHOUSES AND BOUTIQUES (AS THEY ARE CALLED). LUNCH PACKETS, STREET FOOD AND THE GREAT TASTES OF FOODS FROM THE ISLAND’S DIFFERENT ETHNIC GROUPS CAN ALL BE SAVOURED.

As the sun sets the hopper shops and rotti stalls come to life, offering a wide range of delicious treats: kottu rotti, egg hoppers, masalawadde and gothamba rotti, to mention just a few. The clanging of the griddle can be heard everywhere as kottu rotti is chopped, while people in small tin sheds fry masalawadde.
