A modest 246 square miles (646 square kilometers) in total landmass, Singapore is made up of one main island and fifty-eight much smaller islands, all located only one degree north of the equator. Its tropical hot and humid climate year round is compensated for with highly air conditioned malls, office buildings, and homes. It may be fertile land, but lack of space makes agriculture unfeasible. Most raw ingredients are brought in from Malaysia, Indonesia, and elsewhere in the region. The long-established Port of Singapore is one of the busiest harbors in the world, so much so that their vast experience has led them to manage other ports around the globe. Look out into the harbor from one of the skyline’s many luxury hotels, and you will see hundred of ships docked, coming, and going.
