I’ve heard it said that serving another liquid with a bowl of soup is redundant, because soup satisfies one’s need for both liquid and solid. This might be logical, but it’s certainly not much fun.
My first thought at any meal after “What are we having?” is “What are we drinking?” This almost always means wine, but occasionally in the summer or with a hot Asian or Mexican soup, beer enters the choices.
I take a haphazard approach to choosing wine, based more on whim and a sudden craving for certain flavors rather than on predetermined rules and concepts.
