With her baskets of allotted cookies (plus a secret stash stuffed under her skirts), Wilhelmine Suter boarded the boat in Wädenswil, on the lake of Zurich. The Suters had made Tirggel, the beloved honey biscuits popular in the city, for years, but it was only in 1840 when they were actually granted permission to sell them, as distribution of baked goods was strictly controlled. However, with her husband newly allergic to flour and unable to deliver, or make, the cookies, it was up to Wilhelmine to take the daily trip to sell to the bakeries of Zurich.
