Despite the relatively limited number of Korean desserts, there are some wonderful sweet dishes that use deliciously unexpected ingredients.

In the dish of baesuk poached pears are given a lift when flavoured with whole peppercorns, creating a tantalizing combination of sweetness and spice. Kyungdan sweet rice balls are filled with bean paste and then covered in a mixture of red dates, chestnuts and sesame seeds to produce a crunchy coating that gives way to a wonderfully light and fluffy centre.
