  • About
On the beautiful island of Luing off the west coast, there are 15 locals who run a collective of voluntary home-bakers to provide cakes for the Atlantic Island Centre in Cullipool, the largest village, and also the island shop. The baking group comprises 14 women and 1 man; 15 bakers out of a population of only 162 is rather remarkable. They provide cakes and traybakes all year for the island shop and the Atlantic Centre. They also provide bakes for the weekly community lunch club (a mere £3 for homemade soup, rolls and sandwiches) which is held at the Centre out of high season, and in Toberonochy Village Hall during the busy summer season. The bread they use is from Mary Braithwate who runs the wonderful Luing Bakery, where she bakes superb bread.
