Physical contamination, the adulteration of food by a foreign object such as broken glass, hair, metal shavings, paint chips, insects, or stones, can be avoided by following the basic safety and sanitation guidelines provided in this chapter. However, if physical contamination does occur, immediately discard all affected raw and prepared foods.
