Bordering the states of Assam and Arunachal Pradesh and the country of Myanmar, Nagaland is a hilly state with a tribal population that is mainly Christian. Most of the hills consist of tropical and sub-tropical evergreen forests that are important for the timber trade, and local farmers produce a few staple crops in cleared areas which, together with meat, form the basis of the simple daily diet.
