Central India is made up of Madhya Pradesh and, since 2000, Chhattisgarh. These areas are landlocked, with the Arabian Sea bordering the state of Gujarat to the west, and the Bay of Bengal bordering the state of Odisha to the east. The countryside is made up of beautiful rolling hills rising to 600m (2,000ft) - where primeval forests flourish and ancient temples and palaces still stand - and fertile valleys containing lakes and rivers that teem with freshwater fish and provide water for the many crops that are grown.
