Airlock or fermentation lock There are several types of these available, either plastic or glass. The plastic ones are quite adequate and far more durable. The purpose of the lock when placed in a bung (or cork) on the neck of a fermenting gallon of wine, is to protect the fermenting ingredients from the air, which could cause oxidation. It also prevents the entry of the Vinegar Fly, which is one of the greatest enemies of wine, while still allowing carbon dioxide to escape into the atmosphere.

Body A tasting term used to describe the feel of the wine in the mouth. Wines are usually described as Full, Medium or Light Bodied, the best illustration being the comparison between a light table wine and a heavy port.
