All around the world, tuna stocks are under pressure. You can determine whether it’s responsible to eat tuna depending on the region where a particular variety is caught or on the fishing method that’s used. Choosing the right tuna is not as complicated as you think! Make sure the tin features the MSC-certified label and is guaranteed pole-and-line caught and you can enjoy your fish with a clear conscience. For more information.

Now, before you get started, one final note about tinned fish: These recipes call out the net weight for each tin of fish (e.g., “one 6-ounce [160 g] tin of tuna”). This is normally listed on the front of the tin, and is different from the drained weight (what the fish weighs without the oil or water inside the tin). Some tins may list the drained weight, others may not, but just remember: The net weight is what we’re working with.
