  • About

In July even the most stringent spender is tempted to buy quantities of delicious food. It’s a month that is synonymous with the best of our home-grown fruits. Such lovely ingredients are best served in a simple fashion, which is fortunate, for warm weather inevitably dulls appetites. Keep main meals light, choosing from chicken, veal, salmon and summer shellfish including lobsters and prawns. Serve them with this month’s garden peas, calabrese, courgettes and French beans.

Now is the peak of the strawberry season and there should be plenty of raspberries and red- and blackcurrants. Gooseberries are getting larger and riper and towards the end of the month the juicy red eating gooseberries will be in the shops. Possibly they will be rubbing shoulders with loganberries and the advance supplies of imported peaches soon to reach the market.
