The highlight of December is of course Christmas with all the careful preparation and planning. There are the traditional dishes to plan as well and the stuffings and special sauces to make. Select some of the fine beef and pork for main meals and weekend roasts and order your turkey well in advance if you want one for Christmas.

Remember that root vegetables store better if they are unscrubbed and for winter salads choose celery, beetroot, chicory and crisp cabbage. Imported oranges, satsumas, figs and cranberries can cheer up desserts and let polished apples, pears, grapes, nuts and bananas crown the fruit basket on the Christmas table.
