It is quite possible that chef-ing has always been in my blood. After all, I hail from a family whose life revolved around the preparing and sharing of food. Growing up between Brooklyn and Long Island, New York, most of my life’s major events centered on food in some way. Looking back, I did trail my parents and grandparents in the kitchen—watching every move they made and filing it away, not knowing this would become my calling and life’s passion. The rich Panamanian-Caribbean-American heritage into which I was born was steeped in the passing on of food, love, and laughter.
