There are two surprises this month. The first is to wake up one morning some time towards the very beginning of May and to see the first poppies — magnificently minimalistic and bright tomato-red, standing against their background of luminous-green hills.
Then there are the lucciole — the very elegant fireflies.
One clear night, driving through the unlit countryside, I found myself without warning in the middle of the ultimate, private, silent Peter Pan theatre of lights. They had lit up the dark night and certainly my life with their very short, sparkler-like existence.
